Dead By Daylight: 7 Tips To Stay Hidden From The Killer

Players stand a better chance of staying clear of the killer by following these essential tips.

Many killers will face issues when facing survivors with a looping build, especially if their power does not counter looping. Killers using the Nurse can bypass looping due to the ability to teleport, but killers like Trapper and Ghostface find it challenging to land attacks because their powers don't directly affect hits.

Updated February 18, 2024 by Aly Azmy: Looping builds will always expand with the addition of new perks. The Alan Wake survivor has introduced a new perk that pairs perfectly with a flashlight-focused build.

The list is also updated to include a build that provides utility for the entire team to help them in looping and avoiding the killer. In addition, each build is updated to include what play style best matches it, so players have an easier time finding one that matches their preference. Dedicating one or two players to one of these looping builds will give players an advantage over the killer.

1 The Vanish Act

Play Style: Vanish At Will

Rather than extend a chase, escaping from one can always be a possibility. Survivors will take advantage of three perks to disappear from the killer's sight and leave them searching the area. This perk works best if used near high walls that block the line of sight. It is best to avoid playing with one of the louder survivors in the game, as killers have a much easier time tracking their grunts of pain.

  • Lithe (Feng Min): Sprint at 150% speed for 3 seconds after performing a rushed vault.
  • Quick and Quiet (Meg Thomson): Suppresses noise notification when performing rushed vault or entering and exiting lockers. The perk has a cooldown of 20 seconds on tier three.
  • Dance With Me (Kate Denson): Hide all scratch marks for 3 seconds after performing a rushed vault or quick locker escape. Dance With Me has a 40-second cooldown on tier three.
  • Distortion (Jeff Johansen): Prevents the killer from reading a survivor's aura, but consumes a token. Survivors start with three tokens, but these can be regained for every 30 seconds spent in the killer's terror radius.

2 Bloody Escape

Play Style: Vanish & Self Heal

Dead by Daylight: 6 Best Survivor Looping Builds (3)

The goal of this build is to last a long time before receiving a hit. Survivors must do their best to extend the first chase as much as possible to stall the killer's time. After getting hit, survivors should have a planned escape to a safe area to self-heal with a med kit. The heals will make it harder for the killer to locate them as they cannot rely on audio. Lucky Break is used in many fun survivor builds but has powerful potential to escape a chase.

Dead By Daylight - Common Survivor Mistakes

New to Dead By Daylight? Check out these common mistakes made by inexperienced Survivors, and what to do instead.

  • Lucky Break (Yui Kimura): Once injured, Lucky Break suppresses all pools of blood and scratch marks for 60 seconds. The timer pauses once survivors are healed and can be regained by healing others. Each second spent healing other survivors adds 1 second back to the perk.
  • Overcome (Jonah Vasquez): Adds two extra seconds to the movement speed gained when struck by a killer. The perk has a 40-second exhaustion de-buff.
  • Empathy (Claudette Morel): Reveals the aura of all injured survivors in a 128-meter radius.
  • Bite The Bullet (Leon Scott Kennedy): Suppresses grunts of pain when self-healing and healing other survivors, but failed skill tests result in a 1% regression penalty and no loud noise indication.

3 Expert Looper

Play Style: High Risk & High Reward

This build is focused on stalling the killer without any self-preservation. Survivors need to utilize all looping tips to stay one step ahead of the killer. Learning the timing of Dead Hard will be difficult, but when pulled off, it will extend a chase more than many other perks. The Resilience perk will provide an advantage to survivors when vaulting while injured. Dwight's Bond perk is essential to guarantee that survivors do not lead the killer to another survivor and interrupt them working on a generator.

  • Dead Hard (David King): Press the active ability button after being unhooked while injured to initiate a 0.5-second endurance effect. Causes 40 seconds of exhaustion after use.
  • Windows of Opportunity (Kate Denson): Reveals all pallets, breakable walls, and windows in a 32-meter radius. This perk is essential to help survivors know which area is safe.
  • Bond (Dwight Fairfield): Reveals the aura of all survivors within 36 meters.
  • Resilience (General Perk): Increases unhooking, healing, sabotaging, repairing, and vaulting speed by 9% while injured.

4 Late Game Distraction

Play Style: Distractor & End Game Focused

A small percentage in speed makes a significant change in a chase. A three percent speed increase will allow survivors to run loops that they would normally be unable to do. At the end of the game, this build shines as it gains an additional speed boost that makes it much harder for the killer to catch up to survivors. Survivors running this build make it their responsibility that others can escape while they keep the killer preoccupied.

Dead By Daylight: Best Healer Builds

Players who like to take the role of a healer in Dead by Daylight may want to consider the following builds.

  • Iron Will (Jake Park): Reduces the volume of grunts of pain by 75%. This perk works better when playing with a quiet survivor, allowing survivors to sneak up on killers for potential hook sabotages or flashlight rescues.
  • Made for This (Gabriel Soma): Provides a 3% haste effect when injured. After healing a survivor, gives both players endurance for 10 seconds. Made for This does not activate if survivors are exhausted.
  • Hope (General Perk): Gives the survivor a 7% haste effect when an exit gate is powered.
  • Left Behind (Bill Overbeck): The Aura of the hatch is revealed within a 32-meter radius.

5 Flashlight Menace

Play Style: Distractor & Aggressive

Dead by Daylight: 6 Best Survivor Looping Builds (8)

Flashlights are on the list of useful tools for survivors, especially when handled by a skilled player. Players can prevent the killer from picking up a survivor and potentially rescue a teammate who is on their last hook. The goal of the flashlight in this build is to attract the killer's attention and help another teammate escape. Getting hooked on an active Deliverance can help stall the killer and buy the team some time to get generators done or heal up.

  • Champion of Light (Alan Wake): Grants a 50% haste effect while using a flashlight. Killers blinded by the flashlight will receive a 20% movement penalty for 6 seconds.
  • Fixated (Nancy Wheeler): Allows players to see their scratch marks. Players receive a bonus of 20% movement speed while walking.
  • Background Player (Renato Lyra): The perk is triggered once a survivor begins sprinting within 10 seconds after a survivor is picked up. Gain 200% increased movement speed for 5 seconds once the perk is activated. It causes a 40-second exhaustion effect when used.
  • Deliverance (Adam Francis): Activates after unhooking a survivor. When active, players gain the ability to unhook at the cost of the broken status effect for 60 seconds.

6 Safety Zone

Play Style: Team Focused & Safety

Dead by Daylight: 6 Best Survivor Looping Builds (9)

This build gives the whole team a safe zone to loop the killer while receiving a small speed buff. Players running this build can use Lucky Star to quickly hide from killers during a chase while inside the range of Boon: Shadow Step. This build hinges on finding dull totems located in hidden areas, so it is best to avoid relying on boons out in the open.

  • Boon: Shadow Step (Mikaela Reid): Blesses a totem with the ability to mask all scratch marks within a 24-meter radius. The effect lingers for 4 seconds after players move past the boon's effective range.
  • Boon: Dark Theory (Yoichi Asakawa): Bless a totem to give survivors a 2% haste bonus within a 24-meter radius. This effect persists for 4 seconds once players move past the 24-meter zone.
  • Lucky Star (Ellen Ripley): Supresse pools of blood and grunts of pain for 10 seconds after entering a locker. The aura of all the survivors is revealed alongside the closest generator. The perk has a 30-second cooldown on tier 3.
  • Flashbang (Leon S. Kennedy): Activates after repairing 50% of a generator. Once active, players can create a flashbang while inside a locker by using the ability button. Flashbangs can be used to blind the killer and deplete after one use.
