2022 PAGE A GROUP OF MEN FROM CALIFORNIA ARE IN JAIL IN LOUISVILLE AFTER POLICE UNCOVERED CASH, GUNS AND MORE THAN 2,000 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA. THE BUST HAPPENED IN THE HIGHLANDS, BUT AS LAUREN ADAMS REPORTS, IT BEGAN WITH A SINGLE TIP MONTHS AGO IN BARDSTOWN. BASICALLY, THE BIG TOTES THAT WE SAW FOR CHRISTMAS, THEY WERE FILLED FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AND THERE WAS ABOUT WELL UNDER 90 OF THOSE BIG, HUGE TOTES INSIDE BARDSTOWN CHIEF KIM CUSICK SAYS THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OF INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED. WHILE IT WAS HER DEPARTMENT THAT GOT THE INITIAL TIP BACK IN AUGUST, THE BUST MADE TUESDAY EVENING HAPPENED IN THE HIGHLANDS. THERE WERE, POLICE CARS EVERYWHERE. YOU KNOW, AND IT WAS FRIGHTENING, YOU KNOW, AND THEY HAD GUNS OUT EVERYTHING LIKE THAT. PERHAPS MORE SHOCKING TO NEIGHBORS WAS WHAT POLICE WHO EXECUTED SIMULTANEOUS SEARCHES AT A HOME ON ELMWOOD AVENUE AND A BARDSTOWN ROAD APARTMENT SEIZED 30,000 IN CASH, MULTIPLE GUNS, AND THAT MASSIVE AMOUNT OF. 2,000 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA CROSSES. THERE’S A LOT. SO THAT DID SURPRISE ME. POLICE SAY THE TWO LOCATIONS AND YOU CAN SEE JUST HOW CLOSE THEY ARE. IN FACT, THEY ACTUALLY SHARE AN ALLEY HAD BEEN UNDER SURVEILLANCE FOR WEEKS BUT ULTIMATELY JUST WANT ARREST WAS MADE HERE. POLICE WAITED UNTIL FOUR OF THE MEN WALKED RIGHT THE STREET TO A GAS STATION AND THEN THEY MADE THEIR MOVE. A FATHER AND SON AND THREE OTHER MEN, ALL FROM CALIFORNIA, NOW FACE TRAFFICKING AND OTHER CHARGES BARDSTOWN POLICE WHO WORKED WITH MULTIPLE, INCLUDING CLARKSVILLE AND GEORGETOWN’S DRUG UNITS, SAID THE OPERATION STEMMED NELSON COUNTY TO SOUTHERN INDIANA. NEIGHBORS LIKE JOHN GILDER BLOOM WERE GLAD TO SEE IT COME TO AN END. DRUGS KILL, KILL. MY SON AND IT’S HORRIBLE. JUST ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. AND I’M GLAD THE POLICE ARE DOING THIS AND LEAST PROMISE. Five men were arrested after a huge amount of marijuana was uncovered in Louisville.Police said that roughly 2,000 pounds of marijuana, multiple guns and $30,000 were seized on Tuesday evening. See photos of the seized items below."Basically the big totes we use to store for Christmas, they were filled from top to bottom and there was a little under 90 of those totes, to kind of give you a visual of what it would look like to store that quantity of marijuana," said Chief Kim Kraeszig, Bardstown Police Department.Miguel Suarez Sr., 44, Miguel Suarez Jr., 23, Manny Medina, 44, Eduardo Rojas-Garcia, 24, and Brian Chacon, 23 were the five arrested. All five are from California, according to arrest slips.Jeffersontown, Clarksville, and Bardstown police departments, as well as the Nelson County Sheriff's Office and DEA were involved in the case after Bardstown Police received a tip in August.Arrest slips say that the men were stopped by leaving 1629 Ellwood Avenue, near Tyler Park on Tuesday evening. It's when police recovered a "large sum of currency."Multiple agencies, including LMPD's SWAT team, helped execute a search warrant at Ellwood Avenue and at a nearby apartment on Bardstown Road, where they recovered the marijuana, guns and more money.All five men are being charged with engaging in an organized criminal syndicate and drug trafficking. They all pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday morning.The men are being held on bonds of $100,000 each.
